Lizzie Gough - NVDA PATRON
Lizzie was born in Southampton and trained at Laine Theatre Arts. She was a finalist on the first season of BBC’s So You Think You Can Dance, to then to represent the UK in the worldwide TV show Segundo Campeonato Mundial de Baile in Mexico. Lizzie can be seen on the hit CBBC show Alesha’s Street Dance Stars, seasons 1 and 2 as a Judge. Her credits include Virgin Media Advert for BGT, the Box Ident, Timex advert ,Take That “The Circus” Tour, LMFAO, Got to Dance with Adam Garcia & Kimberly Wyatt, and recently a Dance Captain for the London Olympic 2012 Closing Ceremony. She was original cast member for Theatre shows Blaze, Revolution and of course Zoonations Some Like it Hip Hop.
Karen Robertson - Principal,Choreographer, Head of Freestyle and Street and Showteam teacher. FNATD, MA
Karen Robertson has been dancing since the age of 3, training in Contemporary, Rock 'n' Roll, Street Dance, Freestyle, Jazz, Ballroom, Latin American, Ballet and Modern through the NATD. Karens professional career started whilst studying at college. She was fortunate to gain a place as both a dancer and singer with a local company travelling the country in the show 'Flanagan and Allen. After this opportunity she went on to perform in other cabaret shows and at holiday parks whilst training at Middlesex University in Performing Arts and LIPA.
After graduating Karen worked professionally as a dancer, choreographer and Dance Captain both in the United Kingdom and abroad. Working in both Hotels, on cruise ships and in theatres. Unfortunately her professional career was brought to an abrupt end after gaining a severe ankle injury whilst working abroad.
This accident led Karen to alter her dance dream and open up Nene Valley Dance Academy. Since then the school has continued to grow and is expanding in different directions. Throughout this time Karen has strived to increase her own ability levels and has trained at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) gaining her MA in Performing Arts. She is also a qualified Secondary School Dance teacher as well as being an Fellowship member of the NATD . She has also gained the Recognised Qualified Teacher Award from the Council for Dance Education and Training. www.cdet.org.uk. Karen is fortunate to have two young children of her own and is now working as a class teacher in a local primary school alongisde running the dance academy.
Opening NVDA has enabled me to pass on my passion for the performing arts whilst helping pupils to achieve their dreams. It is lovely to watch all of my pupils grow as performers and see their confidence increase, l feel incredibly lucky and honoured to be able to help my pupils reach their dreams.
Miss Zoe - Head of Theatrical - Acro. Modern, Ballet and Troupe Teacher - ANATD
Zoe started her training at the age of three at Wendy Sharpes and Sharon Potters school of dance. Here she studied NATD Ballet, Tap, Stage Modern and acro to advanced to levels. At the age of 16 Zoe then went on to study Musical Theatre where she gained a place at some of the leading colleges in London. She continue her training in Cambridge which gave her the chance to complete various Musical Theatre exams as weel as studying ISTD Ballet and modern and BTDA Modern. It also gave her various performance opportunities where she was abe to use her love of dance on stage. Zoe is now wanting to focus on the teaching side of dance and teaches many different styles of dance at NVDA including our acro classes where our pupils are making fantastic progress.
